MSWIA music safari’s and Mandolin world retreats present – The Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg Mandolin safari. Join Mike and Caterina on their exclusive 6 day Mandolin safari in South Africa! You will enjoy a full South African cultural tour where you will experience South African wildlife, culture, music, dance, arts and crafts all while dining on fine South African cuisine and playing your mandolins with Caterina and Mike.

The highlight would be the 2 x daily safari drives and 4 full days of being immersed in Mandolin music, jamming and the African bush.

The Mike Marshall & Caterina Lichtenberg Mandolin Safari South Africa is an event for music-lovers of all ages, levels, interests, and tastes! Whether you are an experienced player, a beginner, or just an enthusiastic fan, our six day programs offer activities and workshops for you.

Our environments are non-competitive and are strictly about immersing oneself in the joys of music and our lovely surroundings! The Mike Marshall & Caterina Lichtenberg Mandolin Safari South Africa promises to be a highly rewarding and unforgettable musical adventure.

During the workshop sessions, you can expect practical, hands-on instruction providing first hand musical encounters with Mike and Caterina. Mike is known as a Bluegrass and New-grass Master who also plays Classical and Brazilian music and Caterina is a world renown Classical Mandolin player and the Professor of Mandolin at the Music Conservatory in Cologne, Germany.

This will be a very unique musical workshop where a wide variety of Mandolin styles and approaches will be covered. Upon arrival at the Ivory Tree Game Lodge we will spend time to tailor-make our workshop sessions, to ensure that every student gets the most out of their experience. You will be divided into groups according to your primary style of choice, whether Bluegrass or Classical, but we would like to offer you the opportunity to expand your musical horizons and repertoire by learning some news songs and techniques to apply to what you already know.

All of this personalized and tailored instruction, an al fresco ‘bush performance’ by Mike & Caterina and the added bonus of jamming alongside these Mandolin music legends in the heart of one of the most beautiful settings in Africa will make this an unforgettable, once in a lifetime music safari experience.

DESCRIPTION

On this music safari we will be staying at the exceptional 5 star Ivory Tree Game Lodge, which is situated within the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, one of the largest volcanic complexes of its kind in the world with it’s rare rock types and structure making it a unique geological feature. The early presence of man can be seen in the numerous Stone and Iron Age sites that are scattered throughout the Park.

We will also visit Cambanos and Son – a curios shopper’s paradise, where you will be able to do curios shopping and purchase African arts and crafts, beads and gifts for friends and family. After our visit to Cambanos and Sons we will depart for the Lesedi cultural village.

On the following day we will depart Lesedi and head out to the Ivory Tree Game Lodge to start our music safari. During this Mike Marshall & Caterina Lichtenberg Mandolin Safari we will enjoy 2x daily game drives in open air safari vehicles, and spend the rest of the day getting instruction from world renowned performers and instructors, and two of the most influential Mandolin players in Bluegrass, Brazilian and Classical music…

Itinerary

Day 1: Curios shopping at Cambanos and Son where you can enjoy a wide variety of African Arts and Crafts, followed by the Monati lunch and cultural exchange experience at Lesedi cultural village where you will spend the rest of the day and evening discovering the fascinating cultures, food and traditions of the people of South-Africa.

Day 2: Breakfast at Lesedi and depart for Pilaansberg. Arrival and lunch at the Ivory Tree Game Reserve will be followed by our first session with Mike & Caterina  and a relaxed afternoon Game drive which will officially kick off our Ivory Tree Game Lodge safari.

Day 3-6: Each day starts off with coffee, tea, fruits and snacks which will be served. We will then head out on the game vehicle for our first early morning game drive. Breakfast and lunch will be served upon our return, followed by our Masterclass sessions with Mike & Caterina. This will be followed by an evening game drive, after which dinner will be served.

Day 7: We will start the day off with an optional early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Departure at 11:00 am.
